The Golden Eye of film scanning/
Scanning and restoration of film archives/
Hocus Focus has the knowledge, competence and technology to take care of film and store it for a digital future.
Our workflow secures the quality and ensures a simple and straight forward process for our clients: From we receive the film reels to the digital master for archive and publishing is delivered.
Hocus Focus can offer the scanning, digitalising and restoring of 16mm and 35mm of film, using our GoldenEye II Film Scanner.
GoldenEye’s unique qualities include scanning of old film, which often can be damaged or shrunken and therefore difficult to scan.
The restoration is performed by our Mistika system. The system handles digital dust bust, colour correction, image stabilising, restoration of perforated frames and rescaling. One of the world’s largest film labs; Technicolor in Madrid, has chosen Mistika as its system for digital restoration of film.

Reference projects/
Hocus Focus has been responsible for several large-scale archive scanning projects, like Statoil Norge AS and Posten Norge. We have digitalised film archives in high resolution (2K DPX) for future use and archives, in addition to creating standard resolution files (QuickTime, Mpeg and WMV) for WEB and DVD.
Statoil
Statoil has an extensive archive containing 16 mm and 35 mm (negative and positive) film going back to the 1960s. We have digitalised more than 25000 meter film with unique images from the pioneering time of the Norwegian history of oil to contemporary installations of oil extraction. The GoldenEye’s unique handling of film made it possible to scan shrunken, perforated and even snapped film reels.
Posten
Between 1959 and 1978, Posten produced a yearly cavalcade called “Postrevyen”. They travelled around in Norway and documented the work of bringing the post to the right places. The films provide unique experiences of an era in time of our country. The film reels was public viewing copies (16mm positive) and had therefore a great deal of damages like dust and scratches on the negative, in addition to faded colours. The film reels were digitalised in high resolution to 2K, and QuickTime files was provided for the use of editing documentary film. The optical sound also became digitalised and the films was further upgraded by digital restoration, using the Mistika system to remove dust and damages. A new digital life was given to 50 years old film.
