Malabar/
“…don’t laugh at the birds helplessly fluttering away. The wind has taken them away from the others”.
With this preface written by Halldis Moren Vesaas, we are taken to a dark place of estranged people,
of vulnerable individuals and insensitive bullies. The hunters and the hunted, one tropical night at Grønland – Oslo – Norway.
Viafilm and producer Anders Tangen presents a hard-hitting short film directed by Espen Vidar.
The grim images shot by Thomas Løkkeberg cover prostitution, racism, sexism, psychological problems
and culminates in mindless violence and degradation on the fictive web site “slapping.no”.
However, the closing image of a blue and calm ocean and a sailboat in solitude, brings us hope: Let’s hope Kristina (Julia Schacht)
and Kristoffer (Jarle Bernhoft) are on that boat to Malabar, a region of the southern India, lying between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea.
Hence, far away from the miserable streets of Oslo. A brilliant cast of Nils Sletta and Viktoria Winge, among others and a tension provoking musical score.
A must see, colour graded by Mathias Theissen from Hocus Focus.
